8/1 (9.0) win Bet365
Hidden Gem stepped up in class and ran poorly last time out in September at Newcastle. Before that race, also in September, he had two creditable runs here finishing second in both outings over seven furlongs and today’s distance of a mile, beaten 2.5 lengths and 1.5 lengths respectively.
He is a pound higher than those efforts but the Ed Walker stable is in good form and George Baker rides Hidden Gem for the first time. Baker has a 37 wins from 146 rides record for the stable, 25%, for a 13 point profit over the last five seasons. It is noticeable that Ed Walker has two runners here tonight but Baker only rides this one.
20/1 (21.0) e/w Bet365
There are a few big odds horses who take the eye in this race including George Baker’s mount Dutch Golden Age. However, Penny Dreadful is the selection because of the following reasons; her record in class five, 0-70 and 0-75 handicaps over course and distance reads 1st of 8 (at 16/1) and 2/7 (only beaten a quarter of a length).
Those runs came off 1LB and 4LB higher marks respectively. Recently she has been running mainly in higher class races but being back here could see a return to form especially as she is drawn well. Stable won this race last year with a 25/1 shot.
